In the past, I've looked into Lumosity (mentioned in the article) but could not find truly independent research to support their claims. One of many points that ring true in this article is "training on specific tasks does improve performance – on those tasks." I've had Eric work on N-back apps and he got better at it. Whatever he works on with good effort, he gets better at. But I'm not sure it really translates to other areas of intelligence.

So-called brain-training tools seem to have exploded in the last few years; one estimate puts it at a $6 billion market by 2020. It's clearly become a major industry, but what's less clear is exact......
